Greetings from Beijing! My name is Yuzhe He, Founder and Editor of the Gen-Z Glimpse newsletter. I was born and raised in Central China's Hubei Province, before moving to Fuzhou, Fujian Province - my father's hometown - where I earned my bachelor’s degree from Fujian Normal University in June 2022. Afterward, I pursued a master’s degree at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, graduating in June 2024. Since July 2024, I have been working at the Beijing headquarters of Xinhua News Agency, China’s state newswire.
My goal with Gen-Z Glimpse is to provide China Watchers, through a Gen-Z perspective, with an authentic, multidimensional, and comprehensive 真实、立体、全面 view of China - or at least help a little in that direction.
There’s already a flood of opinions on China out there. I'm not here to add more noise. My focus is on translating Chinese voices, sometimes delivering commentary, to bridge the East-West information gap. Occasionally, I'll dig into history to uncover stories that refuse to fade.
Please note that this newsletter is a personal project I started independently after joining Xinhua News Agency - it hasn't received approval from my employer, nor has it benefited from any funding or other support. Therefore, the views expressed here are mine alone. Whether this content constitutes “Grand External Propaganda” is entirely up to your interpretation.
I aim to deliver at least 3-4 articles per month, sometimes more. In recent months, the updates have been a bit sporadic due to graduation, moving, and starting my new job. Regardless, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for subscribing - whether you discovered this newsletter through a friend, social media, or elsewhere. Your early support means a lot to me.
If you find the content here valuable or interesting, feel free to share it with others. Thank you!
Yuzhe
